Born in Seoul, Korea

Korean-born visual artist. She represented South Korea at the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009 where she became known for her treelike sculptural assemblage “Towel Light Sculptures,” of printed terry cloth, pet accessories and other found objects bound with rope and strung up on clothing racks. Another important series of her work consists of collages made with patterned interiors of torn-up security envelopes which are arranged into gentle gradations of color. She opened her first major solo exhibition at the Strasbourg’s Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in June 2013. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. She lives and works in Berlin and Seoul.
