WILLIAM KENTRIDGE

South African artist who works with prints, drawings and animated films. His subject themes include apartheid, colonialism and totalitarianism. He has been inspired by his desire to connect film and drawing. His drawings, usually pastels and charcoal works, are often created as studies for animated films. He has been influenced by artistic satirists such as Honoré Daumier and Francisco de Goya. He’s also made a series of tapestries which he begun in 2001. His works have been exhibited in prestigious institutions around the world, including the MoMA in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. He currently lives and works in Johannesburg.
